PGCE - with QTS and up to 60 masters level credits.

 

We are committed to providing a comprehensive and thorough primary teacher training. Our PGCE School Direct training programme is delivered by highly experienced lecturers and teachers from schools within Essex and Thames Primary SCITT who also act as mentors to trainees. We respond promptly to an ever-changing landscape, making the necessary adjustments to the PGCE programme to ensure that our NQTs are able to work with immediate professional competency on graduation.

Trainees spend time in a range of diverse placements designed to provide a variety of experiences in different school settings, and are also given the opportunity to observe high-quality teaching in all subject areas.

 

PGCE - Salaried and Training Routes

We run two PGCE routes through School Direct, salaried or training routes:

The School Direct Training Programme is for high-quality graduates who want to feel part of a school team whilst training. You’ll pay fees but may be eligible for a bursary to support you.

The School Direct Training Programme (salaried) is an employment-based route for high-quality experienced graduates with at least three years’ work experience. You will earn a salary while you train.

Part Time PGCE Training Route

From 2016 we will be offering bespoke part time training routes for our PGCE courses.

Assessment Only Route

In as little as six weeks and no more than twelve weeks you can be qualified.

The AO route allows you to demonstrate that you already meet all of the standards for QTS, without the need for any further training. You will need to present detailed evidence and your teaching will be assessed by us in a school setting. You must also take the professional skills tests in literacy and numeracy before you can be accepted onto the route.

Training Bursaries

For the teacher training year 2016-2017 the following bursaries will be available to trainees:

For those trainees with a PhD degree, a masters degree or a 2.1 honours degree, a bursary of £3000.00 is available.

Tuition fees


We charge a tuition fee of £9,000.00 and a non-refundable deposit of £150 and this covers the costs of your DBS check. If you are recruited to a salaried place then the school that employs you will pay us your fees and you can expect to receive a small teacher’s salary. You will be expected to fund all your travel costs.
You may be eligible for a maintenance grant and this will be determined by the Student Loan Company when you make application for your tuition fee loan.

Loans and grants

Home students in England may also be eligible for a student maintenance loan to help towards accommodation and other living costs. This is available through Student Finance England. More information on the Student Loan for Maintenance can be found at www.gov.uk/studentfinance.
