Schools Direct Primary teacher training in Essex
Our Primary PGCE is a full time teacher training course running from September to July. It will equip you with all the necessary skills and experience to become an effective and confident classroom practitioner, qualified to teach across the full primary age range (4-11years). Essex & Thames Primary SCITT offer a school based (Schools Direct) initial teacher training programme, so you will spend a considerable amount of time in a primary school classrooms.
Working in partnership with more than 100 primary schools in Essex, we have the knowledge and the expertise to ensure a very high quality training is provided. By the end of your teacher training, you will be eligible for both Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and have also had the opportunity to gain academic credits at Master’s Level.
Offering teacher training placements in at least two different schools during the year you will gain experience in all primary age phases. We offer placements in EYFS, KS1 and KS2 and do our best to accommodate all age phase requests.
If you haven’t yet decided definitely which age range you wish to work in, do not worry. During the year, you will also be given the chance to gain experience in the age phase you have not had a teaching practice in so that you may apply for any primary school teaching job upon graduation and have relevant experience to offer.
Much of your training takes place within the schools direct, in the classroom, where you will be mentored by highly experienced teachers and taking on an increasing number of teaching hours per day as the course progresses. Alongside this practical teacher training, is a wealth of lectures to back up what you have learned in the classroom with up to date educational theory, current trends in education and relevant and useful teaching skills.
You will also be given the opportunity to enhance your skill and knowledge base in additional areas including: Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, Maths Leadership, Leadership, PE and EYFS.
