NQT Training Programme - top quality training for just £600/year
In an exciting new development at Thames Primary SCITT we are soon to be offering a new professional programme of courses to support and guide Newly Qualified Teachers through their induction year. The courses offered are designed to help NQTs reach the highest possible standards as they start at the beginning of their career.
Head Teachers have been instrumental in designing course content which is based on their feedback of NQT needs. The courses, all quality assured by Essex County, will support NQTs and help them develop confidence as professional class teachers.
There will be a combination of half day courses, observation sessions and twilight surgeries. We hope you will join us in this latest venture for new teachers and contact us for more information.

Course Details
All courses listed below are 1 - 4pm with sessions afterwards for specific needs.
Mathematics: 2 separate courses for KS1 and KS2
“Many teachers continue to struggle to develop skills of using & applying mathematics systematically” Mathematics: Made to measure OFSTED May 2012
The courses aim to build on the skills teachers developed whilst training. They will look at mental and oral starters, plenaries, problem solving and mental strategies.
Literacy: 2 separate courses for KS1 and KS2
These practical courses are designed to build upon teachers’ existing skills and to cement them into a context of class teaching. They will include the teaching of phonics and guided reading.
Working with Parents:
A look at how to manage day to day contact with parents and carers as well as parents‘ evenings and attendance at Annual Reviews. We shall also look at the challenges of managing more difficult meetings including the effective use of language.
Could do better?:
This course unpicks the “admin” side of the job, which can at times be a daunting prospect. Included here are AFL, APP, report writing and Target Tracker.

Looking at recognising, understanding and fulfilling the potential of the diverse needs of children in your class and the effective use of language.

To complete your NQT year we will ensure you have the toolkit for good to outstanding teaching.
Find your voice:
This course looks in detail at the use of voice and its impact on children’s behaviour and learning. Experienced tutors will use the 5voices model to guide NQTs to develop their use of effective voice.
Drama:
This course will develop your ability to teach using creative media to encourage children to work as storytellers.
Behaviour:
This course will extend your understanding of the impact of effective behaviour management on children’s well-being and learning and your ability to manage behaviour successfully.
Other Opportunities
Surgeries:
NQT surgeries immediately follow the afternoon courses and offer teachers the chance to get more personalised support. These will be led by the course leader and another specialist in that subject.
Monthly surgeries
These sessions will run each month as a twilight session and will be led by experienced professionals who will offer support and guidance to NQTs
Observations:
The aim of the observation sessions is to give teachers the opportunity to see good teaching in practice. They will be followed by feedback and discussion. Music and PE will include observation of two lessons to look at progression within the subject. Numbers will be limited.
Website Forum:
The website forum will allow teachers the chance to share views and opinions about teaching and will also give them the opportunity to upload and download resources.
